Members in Mind A message from AMA's president A s an AMA member, you are an important part of our organization. Helping to protect you and the things you care about most is our purpose as a memberbased organization. It's why we began in 1926 and it's why we're still in business today. The satisfaction we get from taking care of you, your family and our communities keeps us feeling fulfilled and moving forward with a strong sense of purpose. The simple idea of taking care of our members the way we care for close family and friends keeps us focused on doing the right things. And one of the right things is continuing to enhance our products, services and communication channels to ensure we remain relevant and able to meet your needs. One of the things you're going to see changing is the way we communicate with you in our advertising. You'll see examples of our new approach in this issue of Westworld, and in your community in the new year. For many members, one of the most important ways we deliver service is online, so we're making some improvements there, too. Upcoming enhancements to your online AMA account will give you greater control over how we interact. We're also improving our website (ama.ab.ca) with members in mind – making it easier for you to find the information you're looking for. This past summer, the southern Alberta flood wreaked havoc in our communities. The event affected me deeply, as it did many of you. I spent time touring the neighbourhoods and towns devastated by the event, talked to members and residents and listened to their stories. While we were able to support many of our members through insurance benefits and advice, I knew there must be more we could do to help the next time something like this happens. So we set out to make changes that will better prepare our members, and better protect them in the event of another disaster. One example is improving communication during the claims process to help ease stress. We're also working on a way to make our claims process more transparent. Online, it will become easier for our policyholders to see where they are in the process, what the next steps are, how long each step is expected to take and whom they should contact for information and assistance. We're looking at a number of other initiatives to help and support our members. As we finalize the details, we'll be sharing them with you in future issues of Westworld. As 2013 will soon be coming to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families all the very best of the holiday season.
