A recent craft beer boom translates to a total of 18 Bend breweries, so come thirsty. EAT & DRINK Plan your own brew tour at the Bend Visitor Center, by picking up a map and a Bend Ale Trail passport, which you can have stamped at each brewery you visit. Or download the free Bend Ale Trail app (visitbend.com). Many of the breweries are within walking distance of one another, but if you want to hit the ones on the outskirts, sign up for an organized tour. Bend Brew Bus (bendbrewbus.com) o ers beer bus tours, while GETIT Shuttle (getitshuttle.com/ tours/beer) will take you pub to pub in a pedicab. Deschutes Brewery (deschutesbrewery.com) started the Bend beer boom when it opened in 1988. See where it all began at the expanded onsite pub, which pours famed brews such as Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Black Butte Porter. Another early adopter, Bend Brewing Co. (bendbrewingco.com) continues to craft fine beers from its downtown pub, where you can gaze at Mirror Pond itself while sipping the Ching Ching, an award-winning tart-and-fruity wheat beer. A neighbourhood pub on the west side, 10 Barrel Brewing Co. (10barrel.com) has a spacious outdoor patio with fire pits for chilly evenings. Try a pizza paired with one of the brewery's hoppy IPAs. Take a break from the pub scene at Boneyard Beer (boneyardbeer.com), which has a simple tasting room o the brewery – which means beer and beer only. The balanced RPM IPA made the brewer y famous, and you won't nd it fresher anywhere else. SEE & DO Go for a hike along the Deschutes River, which runs right through town, or drive to the spectacular Tumalo Falls, which roars at the end of an easy 3.2-kilometre trail. Catch a concert at the outdoor Les Schwab Amphitheatre (bendconcerts.com), or rent a bike and cruise around town. SLEEP e CAA four-diamond Oxford Hotel (oxfordhotelbend. com) is a downtown boutique property with tasteful modern decor, spacious suites and ne amenities, including cruiser bikes on loan. Two blocks away, the budget-friendly McMenamins Old St. Francis School (mcmenamins.com/421-old-st-francis-school-home) occupies a renovated 1936 schoolhouse. With whim- sical artwork that pays homage to the past, and an onsite movie theatre, brewpub and indoor pool, you may need to invent reasons to leave the property.
