1 a a, le, Keeping Our Resolutions A message from AMA's president W e often use the new year as an opportunity to make resolutions that better our lives and communities. But it's important that we stay focused on making positive change throughout the year. I made a few resolutions of my own this past January, and I thought I'd share them with you. I'd also like to hear about your resolutions and how you're sticking to them. Send me your thoughts on Twitter (twitter.com/ WestworldAB) or Facebook (Facebook.com/ WestworldAlberta). (or cycle) with purpose. By that I mean being fully aware of everything that's going on around us in traffic. My son Chris recently completed his driver education with AMA. Armed with the latest rules of the road, he has informed me that I could use a refresher. With that gentle nudge, I committed to getting rid of a few bad driving habits this year. If you want to join me, there are some ideas in this issue's Alberta's Worst Driving Habits package (p. 41). 1. Become an Organ Donor I also vowed to spend one day this year volunteering in my community. A few years ago we began giving AMA employees a day each year to do just that. The uptake has been growing and the stories that employees share with me about their experiences are heartwarming. It's clear to me that our employees get almost as much out of the experience as the organizations that they support. This may not be your typical resolution, but it's certainly one that can have a profound impact. I spent some time considering how I feel about organ donation and let my family know my wishes. If you decide that you would like to be a future organ or tissue donor, the Alberta Government recently made it easier to register this intent – through a registry agent such as AMA, when you renew your driver's licence. It's a simple thing to do, but it could one day give someone in your community a second chance at life. 2. Be a Safer Driver Another change we can all incorporate into our daily lives is to be present and drive 3. Volunteer in the Community 4. Spend Time with Family My last resolution, but probably the most important one, was to have more fun and spend more time with my family. With that in mind, I'd like to wish you and your family a happy and healthy year ahead. And have a warm and memorable Family Day.
