Coffee shop(ping)
T
here's more to modern coffee than just the caffeine kick. Inside Calgary's ARCHEloft makerspace
(formerly Endeavor Arts and Events Space), the first wearable-technology fashion lab in Canada,
Elle Nguyen and Allison East elevate coffee culture by marrying the science of espresso with the
aesthetic pleasures of visual art. eir pop-up café, Latte Art Love, creates dreamy, drinkable designs
that spark conversations and creativity, using both classical latte art techniques and Ghirardelli choco-
late syrup sketching. Visitors can peek in on makerspace projects, explore workshop options, view the
on-site gallery and shop with products from 3D printing and beyond – or, shop the holiday market here

UNLEASH YOUR
INNER ARTIST
Get out of the house and into your right
brain at Paint Nite, where cocktails and
colour combine to create a stress-free
adult experience in creativity. A worldwide
phenomenon, Paint Nite events are held at
bars and cafés in Edmonton, Calgary, and
smaller centres, with local experts guiding
you in creating your own version of a par-
ticular painting over the course of two hours. No experience is necessary, all supplies are included (yes,
they provide a smock) and by the end of the night, you'll have a 40-by-50 centimetre acrylic masterpiece
to take home and show off – or laugh about later. paintnite.com –R.S.

DITCH
THE
JANUARY
BLUES
O
ne would think winter
in Jasper could be a
time to curl up by a fire
indoors. Instead, the town
comes alive with festivities,
over and above skiing, dur-
ing the Jasper in January
Festival. Each of the festival
weeks running from January
15 to February 1 will have its
own theme, kicking off with
the Arts on Ice party. During
Adventure Week, activities
at Pyramid Lake include
skating, dogsledding, horse-
back riding and snowshoe-
ing. Appetite Week will
feature beer, whiskey and
wine tastings, plus a chili
cook-off and taste-testing
at various restaurants. The
final few days during Arts
Week feature artists display-
ing their wares at a street
party with other vendors
and performers.
