AT CALGARY'S MILITARY MUSEUMS, history is hands-on. You'll trudge through a First World War trench, gaze into No Man's Land through a period-style peri- scope and step into the belly of a C-130 Hercules aircraft to get a mission briefi ng. In the Naval Museum, a series of digital screens mimics a sea-level view of the horizon, putting the visitor at the wheel of a Second World War naval vessel. The facility's seven museums incorporate electronic gadgetry into almost every exhibit, delivering on its mission of "Remember, Preserve, Educate." The museums are also home to a vast collection of tanks, airplanes, and more. On December 7, a new exhibit will be introduced at the museums in honour of the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbour. "Ring of Fire: Canadians in the Pacifi c in the Second World War" will tell stories of Canadians at sea during the Japanese attack. Prepare to come away awed – and possibly a bit singed. –Christopher Yip themilitarymuseums.ca
