we've got mail Land of Wine RE: ROAD TRIP, "THE VINEYARD PATH" (SEPTEMBER 2011) Scanning this article, I cannot believe that all I see in Summer- land, B.C. is a starting route and a "chance to focus on cliffside curves." The wineries of Summerland's Bottleneck Drive are some of my favourite in the Okanagan. Looking at the blank space on the map, I nearly wept! Holly- wood and Vine and 8th Generation are two of my favorites, but Sumac Ridge, which celebrated 30 years this July, is the granddaddy of them all. Ah well, if AMA members drive by not knowing what they are missing, there will be more Summer- land wines for me! –Karen Holmes, via email Plug It In Re: Behind the Wheel, "Warming Up for Winter" (September 2011) This story states that you should start plugging in your block heater in October, at –15 C. Since many new vehicles are equipped with thermostatically controlled block heater cords, they do not turn on until the temperature reaches –18 C or so. These cords typically have a larger plug end. The same goes for testing them – they test open until the temperature drops. Therefore, they should not be plug ged in until –18 C to –20 C. –Anonymous, via email From Randy Loyk, technical services man- ager, AMA Automotive Services: GM is the only manufacturer that produces this type of thermostatically controlled block heater. It's still fi ne to plug in this type at –15 C, even if it doesn't kick until –18 C. We tell members to plug in at –15 C because ourcall volumesstart to spike when temperatures hit that range. Members can help themselves by performing this simple task. Papers in Order Re: "Dubai on the Cheap" (September 2011) I enjoyed your article on my favourite city, Dubai, in the September issue of Westworld. and specimens from rhododendrons to ginkgo trees." All this and admission is free! Only in Denmark, though. Pity. Here in Calgary, a family almost has to save up for a visit to the zoo or Heritage Park, where the entrance fee is $20. –Dave Huges, posted on ama.ab.ca/Westworld However, it should have mentioned that a UAE visitor's visa is required for Canadian passport holders. Travel agents would be able to provide details. –Lorraine Morrow, Edmonton, via email Go, Bookmobile! Re: Roadside, "Bookmobile to the Rescue" (September 2011) I was so sad when I heard that the Slave Lake library had burned down. Good to hear that residents still have some library services. –Heather, posted on ama.ab.ca/Westworld Green Space Blues Re: 24 Hours, "Easy Being Green," (Copen- hagen; September 2011) It's easy being green – with envy, that is, after reading about the University of Copen- hagen's botanical garden, with its "enor- mous greenhouses, lakeside rock gardens Correction In the September issue of Westworld Alberta, we mistakenly identifi ed a rambu- tan as a dragon fruit.
