on my skin, a strangely exhilarating sensa- tion. Yelping and shouting, participants dunk themselves and then hightail it back to shore. After our breathtaking ducking, Kelly nearly runs on water in her rush to get back to the beach. But I tread water a few moments longer, happily kicking off my next decade in New York. I've fi nally done justice to my childhood dreams – and forged a tighter bond with the city, too. One of the most popu- lar holiday attractions is Rockefeller Center. Albertans will feel right at home skating at the outdoor rink. When the decorations go up after American Thanksgiving, prices in NYC also jump in anticipation of holiday shop- ping. But there are places where you can still fi nd great deals. Canal Street in Chinatown is a goldmine for designer knock-offs, but you can also fi nd T-shirts, souvenirs, perfume and other inexpensive merchandise at legitimate stores there. In between attending Broadway shows, be sure to get tickets to the annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular, featuring the high-kicking Rockettes. Exercise your taste buds and take in 360-degree views of the city at the revolving View Restaurant and Lounge atop the New York Marriott Marquis. I recommend going at night, when the Christmas lights illuminate the city. If you dine at Planet Hollywood, ask to be seated on the second fl oor so that you can soak up the view of Times Square. The best way to get around the city and see all the sights is the hop-on-hop-off buses. They're a perfect way to get to, for example, the Empire State Building, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim. Need help planning or booking a trip to New York?
