we've got mail Seeing Sparks RE: ANALYZE THIS — "GOING ELECTRIC" (JUNE 2011) I think the Toyota Prius with the combustible engine, which charges as you drive, is the best alternative vehicle on the market so far. I just wish they were more affordable. It's frustrating when you care about the environment but can't afford the technology. –Grant Nielsen, via Westworld online Few people know that there is an electric car called Zenn (zero emis- sions; no noise) designed and manu- factured in Canada, but only B.C. currently allows its sale. Almost all of the company's production is exported to the U.S. Once again, we trust imports but don't support a home- grown product. What a pity. –Robert Parsons, via Westworld online Rechargeable electric-only cars are not practical for anything but very short urban commuter transporta- tion. A fuel-electric combo with a battery for storing power from speed reductions or hills might be of lim- ited use. But for now, the ineffi ciency of existing batteries prohibits the electric car from being more than an interesting novelty to discuss. –H.D., via Westworld online Did you forget where electricity comes from? If 30 per cent of us changed to electric vehicles we would need more generators, which produce more carbon. And where do you put the old batteries? –Daphne Stephens, via Westworld online Camping Luxe Re: Travel Smarts – "Gone Glamping" (June 2011) Thanks for the article on glamping. We have been enjoying luxury camping for many years and wanted to add another place to the ones mentioned in your article. We go back time and again to Solstua West on North Rendezvous Island, between Vancou- ver Island and mainland B.C. It is accessible Waterton, which we visited on your recom- mendation. What a beautiful mountain park. I can't believe I didn't know this existed. It truly felt like a throwback to my childhood. We rented bikes and pedalled around town gaping at the charming houses and hiked down to Glacier National Park. Dinner at Bel Lago Ristorante was probably one of the best I've had all year. Thanks by water taxi, boat, fl oat plane and kayak. While it may not be quite as luxurious as Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, it certainly has many luxurious touches, a peaceful set- ting, good food and wonderful hosts. –Gord MacCallum, via email Long-Distance Lovin' I've often seen your magazine while visit- ing my son in Spruce Grove, but I didn't realize it was published by AMA. Congrat- ulations on an excellent publication. I always read it with interest because there's nothing quite like it in Britain. Keep up the good work. –Mick Furey, Maltby, Rotherham, England Waterton Wows Re: Weekenders – "Waterton" (June 2011) My partner and I just got back from AMA.
