can look down a 305-metre-long corridor at a line of supporting columns that's still as straight and flat as a mirror. Unlike the Mekong and the Tonlé Sap, where the beauty constantly changes with the weather, the season and the water levels, Angkor's magnificence rests in its timelessness. "I come here almost every day," my guide said, "and I never get tired of it. It's a testament to what Cambodians can do." Central Angkor's structures are a must, LINDA WOLLIN AMA Travel Specialist | Cambodia There are more than 20 temples in Angkor alone, enough to keep you busy for several days when visiting Cambodia. One of my favourites is Ta Prohm, the jungle temple, which was featured in the movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider. My other favourite ancient site is Bayon Temple in Angkor Thom. While there, I was fortunate to photograph monks in their bright orange robes. The contrast against the grey stone temples was absolutely striking. For a panoramic view of Angkor Wat, go up in a stationary hot-air balloon. The best views are at sunrise and sunset, when the sun casts a warm glow on the stones. Other interesting ways to see the temples include elephant and tuk-tuk (motorized rickshaw). Cambodian food is full of fl avour, but not too spicy. Expect lots of fresh stir-fry dishes made with locally grown vegetables, such as broccoli and bok choy, at street carts and restaurants. Sweetened coffee and a baguette, spread with fi sh pâté, is a com- mon breakfast. Don't forget to pamper yourself: the Siem Reap night market has many places where, for a couple of dollars, you can dip your feet into a pool and tiny fi sh will nibble off your dead skin. Overall, I really enjoyed the spirit of the Cambodian people. They were humble, always smiling and eager to talk to you about their country's rich history. I recommend hiring a guide to see the best sights in Siem Reap, Tonlé Lake and Phnom Phenh. It made my Cambodian adventure a wonderful experience. Need help planning or booking a trip to Cambodia?
