26 W E S T W O R L D A L B E R T A | W I N T E R 2 0 1 4 The Young Family: Meghan Arthur and co. VISITED: April 2014. is was our family's rst trip to Disneyland. We also did Seaworld and LegoLand while we were there. DIGS: Paradise Pier Hotel at California Adventure Park. I liked staying at the resort; you could just walk to the park. FAVOURITE SPOTS: My daughter loved the Mad Tea Party – the teacup ride – and the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride. My son just had a really good time on everything. Especially rides where he could drive a car. We saw a couple shows and went to two parades. And we went to the World of Color show, with the water spraying and the lights. at was really cool. We also went to a screening of Male cent. It was really nice to take a break, sit inside with air condi- tioning and watch a movie. BEST EATS: e kids really liked the Rainforest Café in Downtown Disney [an Amazon-themed eatery with tropical vegetation, piped-in thunderclaps and animal sounds]. It was really exciting. And we liked the Disney restaurant at the resort, Surfside Lounge. We also liked the Storytellers Café in the Grand Californian Hotel. You'd eat and the charac- ters would go around and visit and take pictures with the kids. BEST ADVICE FOR PARENTS: We learned after the rst day that we should rent a stroller. ere's so much walking and it's really hot, so the kids got tired and wanted to be carried. en we got tired. From then on we rented a stroller every day ($15 per day for one; $25 for two) and it was so much better. Also, be prepared for meltdowns with kids under ve, because these will happen. Always have drinks and snacks to give them. We would get lunch or a snack and then eat in the line while we were waiting. at worked really well for us. ere weren't any grocery stores around, though. I think the next time we go, I would pack snacks from home, so that we didn't have to buy $8 drinks or $5 bananas. I'd just bring granola bars.
