The Running Dead I f you've ever wondered how you'd fare in a zombie apocalypse, here's your chance. The third annual Zombie Run at Sylvan Lake's Top O' the Hill Golf Course, October 18, tests participants' survival skills as they dodge the undead – ghoulishly costumed volunteers who try to steal ags representing your health – over three kilometres of obstacles. Participants compete in teams of fi ve – four pushing the fi fth, who must be seated on a rolling toilet. e whole town joins in the costumed fun. "We'll have Tim Hortons running against Legacy, the local coff ee shop. e two newspapers race against each other, as do the RCMP and fi re department. But the most fun is the banks," says organizer Karrie Peace, owner of the Heavenly Outhouse gift shop, which sponsors the event. Last year, the race between CIBC and Royal Bank was interrupted by theatrical gunslingers, who held up the banks and then "robbed" the crowd for donations. In the past, the event's announcer was Joe Carbury of the Calgary Stampede's chuckwagon races, but this year, a surprise celebrity wrestler will wrangle the mike.
