Driver's-Perspective
Highway Cameras
A
s of this year, AMA partnered with
Red Arrow Motorcoach and mounted
dash cameras on buses travelling
across Alberta. The cameras take photos from the
driver's perspective.
"You get a closer look at the pavement than
you would from cameras installed high above the
road. You can actually see the rain-slick road," says
Collin Moody, AMA vice-president and CIO.
{
Motorists can still view live images from
the 100-plus highway cameras provided
by Alberta Transportation.
Traffic Reports
T
ired of being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the
Deerfoot or Whitemud? AMA Road Reports now uses Google Maps'
traffic layer to monitor traffic conditions in real time. Drivers in
major urban centres will find this feature especially useful for avoiding
rush-hour traffic. Red, green and yellow colour coding shows whether
traffic is flowing or clogged.
"You can check the roads before you get in your car and avoid
traffic jams by finding alternate routes," says Moody. "It's one
of the most popular new features we've added."
